The Background is a "watercolour" of the view over Wahweep Marina |
We had 2 nights at the Econolodge (which gives discounts for the over 50's!) and have to admit that the day we spent in and around the water was bliss, even though the lack of shade was a serious problem - partly ameliorated by a handy Tamarisk bush! Page grew up during the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam and is almost entirely devoted now to serving the tourists who come with their speed boats and jet skis or to float around on their Houseboats. There are very few places where you can stay apart from Page which is the only town of any size. There are 3 Marinas. We stopped off at Hite Marina at the North end of the Lake on our way to Monument Valley. The largest and most sophisicated marina at Wahweep is about 10 miles from Page at the Southern end. The "noisy" brigade, with their huge "RV's", Jet Skis and 4X4s were penned in at Lone Star beach. We were thoroughly entertained watching folks getting bogged down in the sand - serves 'em right the noisy b*****s.
